Portrait commissions
Ian Cumberland has gained many achievements throughout his career for his portraits. In 2009, he was awarded the Davy Portrait Award and in 2011 he went on to win 3rd overall in the prestigious BP Portrait Award at the National Gallery London. He also exhibited there in 2009, 2012, 2013 and 2015. In 2012 he was awarded the Ireland – US Council and Irish Arts Review Portraiture Award at the Royal Hibernian Academy Dublin. He has completed portrait commissions for both public and private collections both nationally and internationally.
The process for commissioning a portrait is very easy, please get in touch via email if you have any ideas, these can be further discussed on the phone or email so that you feel confident about the commission. Once agreed, an invoice will be sent, a 50% deposit is required and the remainder is due on completion and satisfaction of the final work.
I prefer to work from photographs due to the extended length of time that it takes to complete my paintings. Arrangements will be made for me to meet the sitter, were I can take photographs to work from. A range of composition ideas will be forwarded to you for the final portrait selection and when the painting is near completion, updated images will be sent for your feedback. It is important for me that you are involved and satisfied throughout the painting process.
